Delete Your Romancier Account

We're sorry to see you go. Here's exactly what happens when you delete your account, and how to do it.

How to delete your account

You can delete your Romancier account at any time directly from the mobile app:

  1. Open the Romancier app on your device.
  2. Sign in with your account credentials.
  3. Tap Profile in the bottom navigation.
  4. Scroll to Account Settings.
  5. Tap Delete Account and confirm with your password.

If you can't sign in or don't have access to the app, email admin@romancier.app from the address on your account. We'll verify your identity and process the deletion within 30 days.

What gets deleted

When you delete your account, we permanently remove the following data from our systems:

  • Your profile, name, email, and password
  • All NRSI assessment responses, scores, and generated reports
  • Journal entries, reflections, and check-ins
  • Skills Lab progress and completion records
  • Couple link (your partner will be notified their link was removed)
  • Push notification tokens and device identifiers
  • Active subscriptions (cancelled on deletion; see "What we keep" below)
  • Uploaded photos, avatars, and attached media

What we keep

For legal, tax, and fraud-prevention reasons we retain a minimal record for up to 7 years after deletion:

  • Transaction records required by tax law (receipts, payment method type, amount, date)
  • Anonymized, de-identified usage analytics (cannot be linked back to you)

These retained records contain no journal content, no assessment answers, and nothing sensitive about your relationships.

Timeline

  • Immediately — your account is locked and your data is removed from the live system.
  • Within 30 days — data is purged from encrypted backups on a rolling schedule.
  • After 30 days — only the legally-required transaction records described above remain.

Once deletion is complete, this action cannot be undone. If you want to use Romancier again after deletion, you'll need to create a new account.

Frequently asked questions

Will deleting my Romancier account cancel my subscription?

If your subscription was purchased in-app (App Store or Google Play), you must also cancel it in your device's subscription settings. Deleting your Romancier account stops future access but does not cancel the store-side subscription. Payments made through the web (Stripe) are cancelled automatically when you delete your account.

What happens to my partner if we were linked as a couple?

Your partner's account is not affected, but their couple link with you is removed. They'll see a notification that you're no longer linked. Their own data is preserved.

Can I delete just some of my data instead of the whole account?

Not at this time. Romancier's data model treats your assessments, journal, and account as a single unit. If you have a specific request (e.g., deleting a single journal entry), contact admin@romancier.app.

What if I change my mind after deleting?

Deletion is permanent. Once your data is purged you cannot recover it. You're welcome to create a new account with the same email address at any time.

How do I request my data before I delete?

Email admin@romancier.app from your account email and request a data export. We'll provide a machine-readable copy of your assessments, journal, and profile within 30 days at no charge.
